“No more boring designs, period.”

Yes, they will. Unlike Sram/RF direct mount chainrings that require different offset, chainrings for Shimano cranks are exactly the same for regular bike and Boost148 one because the necessary offset is in the Shimano crank itself (Shimano makes 2 crank versions: Boost and non-boost). So all you need to do is to choose your correct crank bcd from our website and don’t worry about the “Boost” specifics.
Yes, they will. We have a special version of Sram and RF direct mount rings with correct 3mm offset for Boost frames. So when purchasing please choose the chainring option “Boost 148”.
We always recommend swapping like for like, so if you have a 32T round ring at the moment, you should consider getting a 32T oval. The same applies to our shiftable road ovals, we recommend that you purchase ovals with the same teeth count as your round rings.
The type of Oval Guide that is right for your bicycle, is determined by your bicycle’s frame and the mounts that it’s equipped with. If you have an ISCG05, HDM (High Direct Mount for front derailleur), S3/E-type mount (direct mount for front derailleur), you can use our Oval Guide. Oval guide is designed for MTB bikes (not for road). With Road bike you should use our “chain catcher”.
If you are unsure which size of an oval to get, when moving from your 2x drivetrain to a 1x (using our MTB oval) you should start from determining the size of a chainring that falls in between your current chainrings. For example, if you have a 2x drivetrain with 24T and 36T chainrings, size in between would be 30T, use that size as a “baseline”. If you don’t have preference in your current 2x setup, and spend equal time in each of the chainrings, oval in “baseline” size should be a good size for you. If you find yourself riding more in the smaller chainring, you should consider choosing smaller oval than the baseline. If you find yourself riding more in the big chainring, you should consider choosing bigger oval than the baseline.

Exactly same way as for round chainring.
You just need to use the nominal size in the calculation of an oval ring you have. That is, if you buy 32T oval you use for calculation 32T size. Reason for this is 32T oval chainring has same circumference as the 32T round. We optimize the shape but not circumference - it stays constant. Distance between each teeth always has to remain at 12.7mm to engage the chain properly. You can use any online calculator to get gear inches for an oval chainring.
All chains on the market except "half link" chain work perfectly fine with an Oval chainring. That is all 6, 8 ,9, 10, 11 and 12 speed chains are perfect for it. When riding singlespeed we recommend using 8spd chain for greater durability.
No you don't. All dérailleurs on the market work perfectly fine with an oval chainring. Movement of the dérailleur cage is minimal and well within natural range.
It’s true that our MTB chainrings will work great with SRAM’s Eagle groupset. The reason why SRAM redesigned the teeth on their chainrings, giving them a ‘hook’ shape, is an attempt to extend the poor life and noise reduction of their chainrings, that are known for fast wear and noisiness. Thanks to higher quality materials, advanced manufacturing processes of our chainrings and excellent tooth shape design, there is no need for a different teeth shape in absoluteBLACK chainrings.
We’ve done it right the first time. Also 12spd chain is almost no different to 11spd one. 12spd chain has minimally thinner plates and resulting from it dimensions, but such change does not have any negative effect on proper work with chainring. In fact, most chainrings on the market that are 11spd compatible will run with Eagle chain with no issue at all, regardless of what Sram advertising campaign says.
It took Absoluteblack over 3 years to develop oval chainrings to the point you see them now. It also took great effort to introduce them to the market because of bad reputation non-round chainrings had in general from Biopace era (mistake Shimano made in early 90's).
But Absoluteblack chainrings quickly proved to live up to the hype. With such a great success, other companies like WT and Oneup started producing their own version within few months. However all our patent pending applications prevented these companies to directly mimic the excellent design we use. Therefore all these companies created shape that "look similar" but is lacking test & optimization process as it takes years to finish.
At Absoluteblack we believe we have created the perfect shape of an oval chainring to back up our claims. Any change to this shape will compromise the benefits you can have. What Absoluteblack claim to deliver will not be accurate for other oval shaped chainrings on the market.
